Strawberry Fields Forever

Kayla, Kaleah, and Miah Fields

On my quest to find positive pictures and videos covering African American/Black Girls last year, I came across three sisters from Santa Cruz singing on YouTube. They were spectacular! Their Father introduced them to musical instruments one summer just to keep them busy.  Kayla, 12, focused on guitar.  Kaleah, 10, also learned guitar, but concentrated on developing her vocals. 9-year old, Miah studied the keyboard. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a deep passion, and the girls fell in love with playing and performing.

In just under a year they have mastered 18 cover songs, written two original tracks, and have been street-performing and playing at open-mics in Santa Cruz. With their exciting new found hobby, the girls continue to do well in school.

In the time since I asked their Father for permission to share their story on Afro Puffs and Ponytails, he has created a beautiful website for the girls.  It speaks of their humble beginnings, displays beautiful photos, and provides a performance calendar.  I have placed one of their many YouTube videos below, and their grandfather is actually performing with them!

Please click here to visit their website.
