Hosted by Lorna Pinckney and Roscoe Burnems of Tuesday Verses, this hip hop-themed evening, open to fathers/father figures and daughters (ages 5 and up), is all about having fun while playing games, being active, and learning how to stay fit while spending some quality time together. This year’s activities will include hip hop dance, kickboxing, zumba, double dutch jump rope, stepping, a game of Twister, and a healthy cooking demo.

While dads and daughters are active at Active Dads, women, especially moms and caregivers, are encouraged to attend this special screening of “Spit’in Anger,” a documentary executive produced by Kenneth Braswell, the executive director of Fathers Incorporated. A conversation and discussion, with Braswell as special guest, will follow the screening. The goal is to help women better understand their role in supporting the relationship between daughters (and sons) and their fathers

Hosted by Tom Joyner of “Tom Joyner Morning Show” and “Miss Community” Clovia Lawrence of Richmond’s 99.3 and 105.7 Kiss FM, this event will feature dinner, live entertainment, contests, prizes, photos, special guests, and of course, lots of dancing! Actor and Richmond native Chad L. Coleman of the hit AMC series “The Walking Dead” will interview dads and daughters on the red carpet, and help Girls For A Change honor five dads with Real Father Awards. Special guest Actor Malik Yoba will also participate. Actor and Comedian Antoine Scott will perform and entertain the fathers and daughters as well. Dinner catered by Carrabba's Italian Grill.

The entire family/community is encouraged to participate and come together to show support for fathers everywhere. On-site registration begins at 11 a.m. The walk/run will begin at 12 p.m. After Dash For Dads, families are encouraged to attend the Camps For Girls Expo, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., for summer camp opportunities, girl empowerment programs and resources, kids’ games, prizes, and more. We encourage participants to wear their Date With Dad t-shirts during Dash For Dads, not required. Buy T-shirts and Pick-up during Active Dads or before the event. One mile walk on campus available for youth.

Visit Richmond 's first camp fair focused exclusively on connecting girls with great summer camps and enrichment programs throughout the Richmond Metropolitan Area. The fair is designed to be informative, free, and fun for the whole family with games, give-a-ways, special guests, and college tour. (If you would like to sell your products, promote your program, attraction, activities or camp, please complete the vendor application.)

“Daddy Don’t Go” is a feature length documentary that chronicles the lives of four disadvantaged men in New York City as they struggle to be good fathers. Actor Malik Yoba, the co-executive producer of the documentary will be a special guest. Join us as “Daddy Don’t Go” shatters the deadbeat dad stereotype, redefining what it means to be a good father for all men. (Maybe inappropriate for children under 13)

A DANCE OF THEIR OWN: A Father-Daughter Dance in Jail
Richmond City Jail | Closed to the public

This dance is aimed at bringing fathers residing in the jail together with their daughters for special, uninterrupted time together in a community-like environment similar to the Date With Dad Dinner and Dance. This marks the first time the Richmond City Jail will host this event in its newly-opened facility.

Proceeds from all events benefit the Camp Diva Summer Retreat Scholarship Fund.
