Girls Rural is a volunteer organization created to empower girls living in RURAL areas culturally, socially, economically and politically through exciting research driven programming, sound mentoring, community outreach and activism.
It is our aim to raise awareness and consciousness of the issues affecting girls living in these areas and bring this awareness to the larger community through leadership and community advocacy.
MISSION:
The mission of g-RU is to meet the needs of girls living in rural communities by helping girls and young women in these areas overcome the effects of ecnomic and gender inequities that continue to exist in our society, develop their capacity to be self sufficient and responsible citizens and to serve as a forceful advocate for girls. We exist to empower girls to be responsible, self-reliant successful women.

Afro Puffs and Ponytails is constantly searching for information about camps, clubs and organizations, and mentoring programs to provide as resources for parents and community organizers. It is our hopes that each resource provided will serve to build confidence, enhance self esteem, develop leadership skills, empower, uplift and educate our African American girls. We are not recommending these programs, but offering a starting point for you to conduct your own evaluation and research about whether a program is right for your child.
